11/16/08 Reef tank update
I've been checking my nitrates once or twice a week when I do water changes, and have recently gotten down to 0ppm. I added a few new inhabitants yesterday, so I decided to run my full testkit. If/when I ever add an LPS coral, I'll have to buy an alk and cal test kits.
Ammonia: 0 ppm
Nitrite: 0 ppm
Nitrate: 0 ppm
pH: 8.2
Salinity: 1.023
Temp: 80 deg F
I had a peppermint shrimp die early on, I think I added him too soon. I purchased him because my liverock had some aptasia on it. He ate it, but it has since come back. I think I'll let it grow big enough to inject it with something rather than adding another shrimp.
My green star polyps are growing already. Several new heads are popping up, and its mat is starting to encrust onto the rocks and grow.
I purchased some zoas from someone local, and they are all looking healthy. Not sure when/if they will spread. I've read that they do, but I've not seen any signs of that yet. I've only had them for a couple of weeks. I also purchased two heads of a brilliant green mushroom from the samy guy, they are looking nice too.
Just yesterday, I added a pink/blue ricordea, an emerald crab, and a few more hermits and astrea snails.
There is a huge population of copepods thriving in my tank. I am considering adding my first fish so that they can become a meal rather than an eyesore. My wife and kids want me to get a clown fish. Maybe.
No new pictures, I am too embarased about my green hair algae. Water changes and the new additions to the clean up crew are taking care of it slowly.
